They have more in common with each other than either have with indifference, and indifference is distinct from them in all the ways that they're similar to each other.
On a love-hate spectrum, I would see indifference as being in the middle while love and [genuine] hate on either extremes.
Is, say, someone who doesn't know enough about you to care about you much really doing the opposite of loving you? As opposed to being 50/50 when it comes to loving vs. hating?
