This is different from what most sources say. Generally it's thought that about 150 soldiers were killed in the blast. Maybe your figure is including "mobilized" students, or some not-quite-soldier level people.
Nagasaki was the second choice target that day and even then the bomb was several kilometers away from the intended hypocenter.
