One of the visual landmarks for targeting was the Nagasaki cathedral, which was the largest in east Asia. Out of roughly 12000 Japanese Christians in Nagasaki, 6000 died immediately and another 2000+ died later from the after-effects.
It was almost certainly the most effective shot against a Christian community ever accomplished.
