I saw a recent stat that made me hummm a little-- recently, the acceptance rate of blacks and Hispanics (in Harvard if I remember correctly) was dropped right down to that of Asian and white students. BUT Harvard did a huge "urban outreach" program which raised the number of black applicants by an equal ratio-- the actual number of students accepted was about the same.
Why did they reach out so much if they only wanted the same number of students from that demographic? It seems to me that they artificially inflated application numbers SO AS TO drop down the acceptance rate to be comparable to that of Asian or white students. And in the meantime, the Obama girls and whatever rich black friends they might have get their spots, along with athletic scholarship holders.

And I know it's not a big focus for you, but Harvard has been using personality assessments, aka racial stereotypes and cultural insensitivity, to bar Asian students:
