Is tolerance intolerant?

Anyway, is it really an "increasingly diverse, complex society" though?  Or is it that Harvard would like to avoid being branded for what it still mainly is-- a puppy mill for enfranchised rich kids?  You want to talk about equal representation?  How about demanding that every income group has proportional representation!

Yep, that's the woman's job, indeed. Make productive babies for the nation. She doesn't have to do anything else. Forget about what she herself wants, it's all about the men and what they can do for the country.
Context, dude. You missed part of the conversation, methinks.

I didn't say women should make babies. I said that when a single mom has a baby, her role as a producer of citizens should be supported and validated. The baby should be treated as a value to the state-- an investment, rather than a tax burden. In turn, the state should have an expectation that she'll take the job of mothering that US citizen seriously, and if she can't or won't, it needs to intervene.

Quote:I said, if you set aside the impact of systemic discrimination and white privilege, it's not really clear that white students do better than black students.

And I already said before it's not about any set of specific questions on the tests that indicate bias, but the whole test is culturally biased because of the reason I stated at least two times now.
And as I said, some courses are "culturally biased" in ways that are surprisingly similar to the ways the test are. They require a good command of English, and knowledge of lots of words that you might not hear used a lot in high school in a mostly-black community. They require math that sub-standard teachers in those communities may not even be able to properly do, let alone teach.

Fun fact (that I'm having alot of fun with).  In the US, how you score in math has more to do with whether or not you were taught the standard lingo..than the actual math itself. In effect, that means that it's more important to know how the questions will be asked...than to know the answer to the questions.

My mother made her nut in secondary teaching "problem children" this one simple rule...but, it's silly..and we're changing it, slowly. We've got issues over here on this side of the pond, Benny. Just consider that, and add racism on top of it, lol.

If she reads that you said that, I don't like your chances of this being a self-predicting prophecy. Big Grin

Do you prefer it measured in % of applicants, or in % of US population? Do we even have stats on what percentage of each demographic WANTS to go to university?

I saw a recent stat that made me hummm a little-- recently, the acceptance rate of blacks and Hispanics (in Harvard if I remember correctly) was dropped right down to that of Asian and white students. BUT Harvard did a huge "urban outreach" program which raised the number of black applicants by an equal ratio-- the actual number of students accepted was about the same.

Why did they reach out so much if they only wanted the same number of students from that demographic? It seems to me that they artificially inflated application numbers SO AS TO drop down the acceptance rate to be comparable to that of Asian or white students. And in the meantime, the Obama girls and whatever rich black friends they might have get their spots, along with athletic scholarship holders.

Read this and weep for affirmative action as an academic equalizer:

And I know it's not a big focus for you, but Harvard has been using personality assessments, aka racial stereotypes and cultural insensitivity, to bar Asian students:

So, murrica..again, baby steps...but I'd like it to get close to representative of our pop, yeah...when those numbers get out of whack...and maybe this isn't the case elsewhere...but here, it always ends up being some racist bullshit at the bottom of the rabbit hole. It's depressing as all get out, lol.

Here in the us, one demographic is overrepresented to the point that even the fuckin racists in admin started to wonder wtf was going on. It was difficult for them to believe, you see...that they;d been that successful at disenfranchising minorities. This whole thing has run on cover for sixty years...when it gets out into the open it's not good for anybody.

Quote:“Broken promises — that’s all you get from the school.”

At Wolf Point High School in eastern Montana, and across the U.S., a fragmented education system is failing Native Americans.

In a collaboration with ProPublica, Times journalists examined a wealth of rarely tapped data to document their plight.

Native students post some of the worst academic outcomes of any demographic group, exacerbated by decades of discrimination, according to federal reports. In public schools, white students are twice as likely as Native students to take at least one advanced placement course, and Native students are more than twice as likely to be suspended, according to our analysis. Above, in Wolf Point.

Native students also score lower than nearly all other demographic groups on national tests, and only 72 percent of Native students graduate, the lowest of any demographic group.

Canada has a particularly glorious record in the fuckery of first nations people. I'd bet the figures are even worse for us. In this case, let me go to a reliable source-- Tiz. . . how are native Canadians doing with the dream of a post-secondary degree at good universities, as you see it?
