No one following the teachings of Jesus Christ would ever say anything remotely like that. I know you are talking about the Crusades. No one considers those to be Christians though. It's like saying the KKK are Christians, or the Westboro Baptists are Christians. It is just not true. They are the wicked people who Jesus warned us about. They are the hypocrites, and they are fakes. Anyone who is familiar with the Bible and the commands of God and Jesus Christ realizes that.
So when you say "history of Christianity" you mean when your particular denomination started. And when was that? 19th century?
And of course this kind of stance you have "they're not real Christians" is what got Christians killing each other for millennia now. Just like the quote I mentioned - it was from a war between "fake Christians and real Christians".
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
