Pushing a kid out of an airlock is just as much taking responsibility for a mistake and learning to live with it. He made a mistake hydrating the little bastard, and he's okay with living with the fact that he pushed it out of the airlock to remedy that mistake.
If he's not okay with that, then he shouldn't push it out of the airlock. Seems pretty cut and dry. Don't want to push a kid out of an airlock? Then don't do it.
