Sure, and the person who tosses a kid out of the airlock is okay with living with that. That much is baked into the setup. There's nobody else on the ship to stop him, and the only way to stop him..if there were, would be to duct tape him to a chair or throw him in the brig (if his ship has one). Then he'd have to be watched constantly, as soon as he got loose he'd make a beeline for the kid and the airlock. That's what he wants to do.
