Do you mean that at face value we should expect Trump's "pro-gay stance" here to be as valid as anyone else's pro-gay stance? Not sure if I agree with that sentiment.

I mean that in group politics these days, group membership is contingent not on BEING a certain kind of person, but on expressing the memes of that group.  A couple shots of Trump at a Cher impersonation contest, another one wearing a rainbow pin, and I suspect millions of leftists will just moo their way to another easy Trump victory.

I have to say, though, that before Trump went insane, he was generally considered among the left-wing rich guys, kind of along with Warren Buffet.  He almost certainly decided to run as a Republican, because their memes were clearer at that time: "Keep out the brown people" itself was pretty much enough for the win.

But I'm willing to believe that despite his political affiliations, he's pretty okay with gay people.  To be honest, I'm not even sure I believe the guy is racist, or sexist, or homophobic.  He's an asshole, and a narcissist, but I think he's far too focused on himself to really care what anybody else is doing so long as it doesn't affect him directly.

Yea, I agree. This is my opinion only, but I think Trump's personal beliefs probably don't have a whole lot to do with what he does to gain power. He does, as you implied, seem to be a serious egomaniac. Historically, he's openly been a Democrat, but as you said, I think he was practicing opportunism as its finest by running as a Republican.
