That's a shame.
I guess that depends on whether you are a victim or a perpetrator.
Certainly a lot cheaper to kill murderers and child rapers rather than keep them locked up for 50 years. Pretty sure the purely pragmatic, economical argument cannot be refuted.
Fortunately, I live in a society which does not always follow the purely pragmatic. If I wanted to liven a country more like that, I'd move to the US.
