I find it interesting that you state that you 'chose' atheism.
Beliefs are not a choice, they are the result of being convinced of a proposition. Either one is convinced gods exist (theism), or they are unconvinced gods exist (atheism).
As for the activities of religion being a motivator, that seems like a great reason to give up religion. There are plenty of people that are not a part of any religion, but still believe in a god. Deists and pantheists, for example.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
