But how does one feel, outside a reserve, if a dangerous animal gets near your home or your children? Even in America, like where I live, we have gators, but even morso in Florida. I get not killing endangered species. But even in America dangerous animals can and do get near non reserve homes.
For example, if I had a kid, and a gator was in my back yard feet from the kid, and my only option was to shoot the gator, I would.
I am sure outside poaching, outside reserves, families interact with dangerous animals. I am against poachers for sure. But outside poaching, how do you keep the balance between protecting nature, and protecting your family?
I don't think anyone would sensibly object to killing a dangerous, protected animal in order to save a human life. But it's important to consider that a LOT of harm and death visited upon humans by wild animals are the result of human stupidity.
Human: 'Aw, look at the cute bear. Let's hand-feed him!'
Bear: 'Huh. So THAT'S what they look like on the inside.'

Glad you agree.
I am with you.
Even outside a reserve, you are one stupid fuck to to get close to a dangerous animal. But it is certainly reasonable if you are not going out of your way to be a dick to wildlife, and you have to protect yourself, even if you don't want to kill it, sometimes it does get to "you or them".
I did have a very small gator in a retaining pond in the shopping center I walk to sometimes who'd follow me every time I passed. Even as small as it was, I knew the movements and that look of "hey asshole, you are in my territory, get the fuck away." Needless to say, I kept my distance.
