These issues are predominantly raised by Americans because America is fast becoming a fascist theocracy. Trans people are canaries in the coal mine and are the prime focus of the right wing American Christians right now since they have lost their fight against stigmatising homosexuality.
If your ideology requires a gender normative society, as all right wing authoritarian societies are, then the easiest targets are trans people due to their rarity, and the fact that not appearing to conform to a gender strict society can easily make other people very uncomfortable if they are trying to conform themselves and fear the consequences of not doing so. Once you have turned society against trans people then homosexulity is the next target to focus on and defeat, followed by women's rights. Think of all the progress that society has made and then think that rewinding it does the exact same thing but in reverse.
