The rest do not need to import water whatsoever.

Do you think that Turkey would be listened to at all if it was not for the Tigris and Euphrates rivers??

America has all the water it needs..the middle east only has oil and no water...
Besides, why are those damn rivers so important? We do not get our water from those rivers, we have enough water resources and rainfall.
I seriously think that you're talking out of your arse. The most barren lands in Turkey are the same lands from which those two rivers flow.

But here, I'm talking with facts. I certainly do not think that Syria is somewhat of a regional military power in the middle east, because it's not.
IF it were, the Golan heights would still be under Syrian control.

We also have places where it is really cold, and snows throughout the year. If you think that we're some desert country that takes camel rides(even though we have camels here, they're only in usage by the local yörük nomads) to work, then you're wrong.
READ them!! In the 'Middle East' including Turkey, it is all about water!! I recall Iraq and Iran ready to go to war with Turkey over The Ataturk Dam, and NO you don't have abundance of water. INDIA has abundance of water, Bangladesh has abundance of water ...
Turkey?? I don't think so You have a very small country and SO MANY DAMS!!!

Why?
Quote:About 90% of Euphrates' total annual flow originates in Turkey, while the remaining part is added in Syria, but nothing is contributed further downstream in Iraq. In general, the stream varies greatly in its flow from season to season and year to year. As an example, the annual flow at the border with Syria ranged from 15.3 km3 (3.7 cu mi) in 1961 to 42.7 km3 (10.2 cu mi) in 1963.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atat%C3%BCrk_Dam
Quote: built on the Euphrates and Tigris rivers in the 1980s and '90s in order to provide irrigation water and hydroelectricity to arid southeastern Turkey.
