The most logical explanation is that the position of certain planets affect earth's population.
Not having enough scientific knowledge to detect the well observed effect does not mean it doesn't exist, notice solar flares and their direct effect on earth.

Just like I told "no one"; solar flares are an example of space objects (like the sun) affect earth. I mean it makes sense; all planets have gravity and cosmic properties coming out of it. Maybe the ancients had better knowledge of cosmology, and horoscopes is one of the conclusions.
