From what I've noticed Creationists are people who are very spiteful, filled with hate, who are constantly cursing other people, and I guess one can get addicted to it. They went their own life's failures by blaming others, by being angry at others and they get short bursts of pleasure by yelling at other people how they're going to hell and whatnot.
I suspect it is more complex. Take the abortion debate in my country. While illegal, those seeking such simply travelled to the UK and had it anyway.
To me it seems a conflation of nationalism with religion. They actually do not care if it happens so long as it does not happen within the borders. One can only conclude that the objection is not moral, but jingoistic in nature.
Although there was a point where the wingnuts actually proposed pregnancy tests at ports of entry/exit. WTF? That whole fiasco actually went to the Supreme court. And was vaporised. Still, it illustrated the weird mindset.
Not to mention the various deaths of pregnant women. It is pretty horrible what religion "inspires" people to do.
