Yeah but... then why be a "Christian" in the first place? It's an arbitrary designation having to do with an arbitrary acceptance of a (perhaps!) not so arbitrary sacrifice.
I've read the Gospels, bro. And, despite my legions of inadequacies (social ineptness, lack of skill at wooing women, sucking at working construction jobs, failing to load a dishwasher properly), being able to absorb, comprehend, and remember stuff I have read is actually one of my strong points.
After having read your Gospels I have this to say: I have known tons of atheists who act the way "your lord Jesus" commands in his sermon on the mount, simply because they think it's the right thing to do. And I've known tons of Christians who would never under any circumstances do that stuff that "your lord Jesus commands" in that sermon on the mount... even under the pressure of thumbscrews... because they despise the idea of ever acting in that fashion. And the only reason they consider themselves Christians in the first place is because they dig the idea of getting to live forever in Paradise because they nodded their head when someone asked them to believe a sacrifice story.
I agree with you, Haipule. Theology is complete bullshit. But (and I think this is where we might disagree) doesn't that mean that Christianity is bullshit?
