My experience has been that the condescending people are the same ones who won't give reasons.
They act as though their opinions are so obvious that anyone who doesn't already agree is just a fool. Offering one's reasoning is a sign of respect.
Something I have observed is that one person may feel obligated to give another person some lip over a past indiscretion and then a third person enters the scene and it looks like the one giving lip is being an arsehole for no reason.
And they might be, but you'd have to go back through one or multiple threads to get what's going on.
It's like when a car tailgates you for thirty km's, passes you and you get up it's arse for a km just to teach it a lesson and some other dude turns round a corner and sees you being a prick and that's his first impression.
Usually by this stage, you're so pissed off that you don't even give a fuck what other drivers are thinking.
So the third driver thinks he'll get up your arse to teach you a lesson and some dude comes round the corner and sees him....
I'm fairly sure I've been caught up in this stupid circle before. :-)
