Louie C.K. broke my heart. I absolutely adored him.

Same. I think it's about time he came back into comedy. What he did is certainly not excusable, but I'd like to think he's paid his due.

edit: I understand he is doing local clubs and stuff but I'm interested in seeing another special from him; he's fucking hilarious.

You know, the sad thing is that as bad as what Louis did, I seriously think that the backlash against him that happened as a result of his being outed as a creep may have made things worse. I can't be sure whether or not Louis was actually remorseful when he wrote that apology. I'd like to think he was, if only because A) I liked his work and B) more importantly, I know first-hand what it's like to be treated like a dangerous psychopath. When I was in the third grade, Columbine happened. And people started to create profiles of potential school shooters. Kids heard about it and used it as an excuse to bully me. Even several teachers bought into it and at least one of my grade school teachers said they thought I could potentially be a shooter. And this idea just got me more and more bitter and full of hatred. And so they just kept doing it. By the time I graduated grade school, I was convinced that I was a ticking time bomb ready to go off. At least in High school, some of the teachers were good enough to me that I started to mellow out. I still got two attempts to frame me as a school shooter, but those fizzled out. But still, that fear remained in me for years. At one point, I wrote a story and sent it to a college teacher and she said I seemed really interested in Svidrigailoff-types but that I wasn't one myself. This legitimately shocked me. Around the same time, I started to go to therapy, and I wrote an essay about Children of Paradise and talked about how much I saw myself in Pierre Lacenaire, the sociopathic murderer. My therapist said that "that's not the [Rev] I know." It was only then that I started to figure out maybe I might be a decent person after all. After all, through all of this, I had only even gotten into a fight once. As a result of all this, if I see someone who I think may be on the edge between good and evil, I WILL feel sympathy for them. If possible, I might find some way to help them. If I see people who I think are so locked in their righteous indignation that they don't care if they're potentially pushing them towards evil, I WILL be enraged. Why, you may ask? Because when I saw Zootopia in theaters, I saw this scene and I saw an alarmingly long stretch of my life in it, and I would really prefer to not see people come to the same conclusion Nick did (and I came alarmingly close to coming to):

Regardless of whether or not Louis CK was actually sincere in his apology, it seems like either nobody believed he was or nobody gave a shit about whether or not he was. Hell, about a month after the news broke, he went into a restaurant and from the story I read about it, everyone spent the whole time he was there making fun of him. As far as I can tell, he did nothing out of the ordinary (for a human being) that night at Sevilla Restaurant.

And I can only assume that when confronted with all this backlash, and being told that many don't even care if he ever tries to change, I can only assume that he wound up thinking something like this (or at least the last verse):

Since I can not succeed

And when he comes back, he ends up doing this:





And given that, in the past, his comedy, when it wasn't just vulgar, was actually fairly thoughtful (especially in his TV series like Louie and Horace and Pete) and, dare I say it, fairly "woke" (even if the revelations make one question whether it was just performative virtue-signalling). That horseshit, this is just jarring and the only way I can wrap my head around why he thought this was a good idea was if this was the culmination of Louis CK figuring out that, if it seems like everyone's going to see you as a massive dumpster fire, and nothing you can do will change that, what's the point in trying not to be?
