He couldn't be resurrected. Tony went to his funeral and keeps his obituary in a special place along with a few other people he lost that hit him really hard. It's mostly kids. TV is wrong and CPR almost never revives a person and if it does the person will most likely die again. Many times they've had to do CPR multiple times from someone that wouldn't stop dying only for them to be pronounced dead at the hospital.
I agree this kind of profession leads to atheism. My cop friend was also a catholic and he told me he lost his religion holding a dying child as well. The worst way to get to atheism but it can't be helped. Anyone that holds a dying/dead child and thinks it is God's plan is not ok. Tony's dad actually said events like that should bring you closer to God... what?!
