I made it through basic training after being raised by crazy strict, abusive parents who both had drinking problems, as well as my not fitting in socially with peers.  Some people buckle under pressure while others rise to the occasion to prove to themselves they aren't what they were raised to believe they were.

What Hitler , Ann Frank, or genitals have to do with any of your -poor me, I was bullied- stuff is beyond my understanding.

Good for you, but did you miss the plot of the movie?

Gere's character's conclusion was STILL, that he prefered that his friend had simply dropped out instead of committing suicide.

You made it through basic? And? In reality, outside a mere movie, even the "toughest" of the tough, who make it to the beaches of Normandy, or North Korea, or Nam, or Desert Storm or Afghanistan, EVEN IF, you make it through basic, combat can and does, fuck people up mentally.

No, sorry, I am not saying it is possible to never have a military. I am arguing, knowing what you just read about me, what I admitted to, just now, in my inability to handle that kind of stress, do you really want me at your side in combat?

Sorry, if you want me lie and say I can handle it, that is  bullshit!

I never could. I am not going to be a pussy and lie about my mental abilities.

I do know that there WERE humans who did handle the violence and did defeat tyranny. I just find it stupid for my fellow humans to defend absolutes, because there were plenty of dedicated sickos who backed the fucker who put a bullet in his brain in 1945.

The dickehead squatting on the oval office, would argue a Dirty Harry, Rambo, military solution, but is the same fucker who just screwed over the 11.000 Kurdish dead whom he shit on.
