Love lift us up where we belong...
Both left and right argue about service to America. I hate this shit. The argument, to me isn't about party. There was less if to no argument about conservative vs liberal when America was fighting Hitler and Japan.

But why should I lie about my own failure? I signed up for the Air Force and washed out. I look back at it now, and understand why I failed. How can someone who was bullied as a kid, raised by authoritarian parents, go into such a serious contract, being bullied, and expected to perform as if they were Superman or Obi Wan?

The lesson of the movie "An Officer And A Gentleman" was not that being "a man" was a script, but in that some people are better suited to doing a job than others. I think the lesson lost in that movie, is that even he wished his friend had dropped out without committing suicide.

I failed out of Air Force basic. By the time I went in, I had a lifetime of grade school, and high school bullying. On top of, all be it, well intended authoritarian parents, who wanted me to be "tough", which never took.

I have every admiration for those who landed on the beaches of Normandy. I also have every admiration for the likes of Ann Frank and Malala. But I am sick of this bullshit notion, that the sexual organs between someone's legs has shit to do with morality. Hitler had a dick but he was still history's biggest fucking dick.

Brian - not everyone reacts to situations like you do/did.

I made it through basic training after being raised by crazy strict, abusive parents who both had drinking problems, as well as my not fitting in socially with peers. Some people buckle under pressure while others rise to the occasion to prove to themselves they aren't what they were raised to believe they were.

What Hitler , Ann Frank, or genitals have to do with any of your -poor me, I was bullied- stuff is beyond my understanding.

Good for you, but did you miss the plot of the movie?

Gere's character's conclusion was STILL, that he prefered that his friend had simply dropped out instead of committing suicide.

You made it through basic? And? In reality, outside a mere movie, even the "toughest" of the tough, who make it to the beaches of Normandy, or North Korea, or Nam, or Desert Storm or Afghanistan, EVEN IF, you make it through basic, combat can and does, fuck people up mentally.

No, sorry, I am not saying it is possible to never have a military. I am arguing, knowing what you just read about me, what I admitted to, just now, in my inability to handle that kind of stress, do you really want me at your side in combat?

Sorry, if you want me lie and say I can handle it, that is  bullshit!

I never could. I am not going to be a pussy and lie about my mental abilities.

I do know that there WERE humans who did handle the violence and did defeat tyranny. I just find it stupid for my fellow humans to defend absolutes, because there were plenty of dedicated sickos who backed the fucker who put a bullet in his brain in 1945.

The dickehead squatting on the oval office, would argue a Dirty Harry, Rambo, military solution, but is the same fucker who just screwed over the 11.000 Kurdish dead whom he shit on.

People who couldn't handle basic wash out. That's part of the purpose of basic training/boot camp.

It still has nothing to do with Hitler, Anne Frank, or genitalia.

No, you have never lied about your 'pussyness'. You, in fact, wrap yourself in it and use it and any abuses you suffered and present it as an excuse for nearly everything.

Yeah, I know your dad shot a gun in the house while you were in there. That's fucked up. But you let it define you when it actually says more about him than it does about you. You were bullied and it defines you. At some point I would have thought you would have sought some counseling to figure out how to move forward or you would have done some work on yourself to try to move forward.

It maybe would have been easier for me to curl up into a ball and give up based on the shit I went through but that's not the life I wanted. I learned that nearly everything that has been thrown at me by others in the last four decades is not as bad as what I lived through prior to that.

Your need to compare everything in real life to movie plots shows that you can't deal with the reality of life.

And no, I would not want you next to me in a dangerous situation. You would revert back to your delicate abused self and couldn't fight your way out of a wet paper bag. You sniveling in a corner would be of no help and would most likely be a hinderance to safe outcome.

I thought my 9 weeks of basic was a hoot - except for the PT grinders at 2 a.m.... Those I could have done without.

Firefighting training was wild.

Graduated 3rd of 168 guys.

Boot camp was far friendlier and more accepting than my home life.

I 100% agree, the purpose of basic is to insure those who go through it can handle what follows.

I couldn't. I didn't, I failed. So why would you, or anyone who made it past basic want me in combat?

Humans buckle? NO SHIT. I did. And?

How many people in every war make it through the training, see combat, only to come home to be scrambled in the brain and end up with all sorts of phycological, mental PTSD conditions.

If you want me to feel bad about not making it past basic, sorry.

Like you said, and I agree, some people wash out.

Brian - you watched a 35 year old movie that had a suicide scene and you decided to tell about how it means there should be no military service - 'cause Hitler - or some such shit.

The damn movie was about poor working girls who want to marry a military officer. Everything else was filler. It's actually a sucky movie that you have decided speaks to some higher purpose regarding military service.

As for coming back from war being changed - yep, that happens. Life events change people every day...some a little bit and some a lot.

You thinking I want you to feel bad about washing out is your baggage.
