If you an atheist/materialist then diseases like this will horrify you because you are your brain. But for a theist/dualist this is not scary since soul is external.

Those sorts of diseases do argue against an eternal soul.
When your brain changes so does the personality and temperament of the person. If they were a "soul" then all that would change would be the speed they reacted not the fundamental nature of who they are.

The soul is infinite. Death is the sudden change of the soul from one plane to another. To access the next three-dimensional plane, the physical body must be completely abandoned.
