OH IKR? As a fun aside, by the time of the wounded knee massacre, the majority of the native population had been heavily christianized...including the Lakota who delivered that richly deserved ass-beating. It was actually the observation of a ritual synthesis between native tradition and the new religion that gave the pretext for aggression....on the one hand, native combatants were told that their regalia was made bullet proof in service to their deliverance from the white devil, and on the other, the white devil was convinced that this was clear prelude to an attack ( and also..you know..satanic).
