Fred is the only NFL player I know of who played a leading role in a cop drama in the 80s.

To be fair, you didn’t specify leads or title characters in your original question, so your criticism isn’t really fair.  And, as I said, this was basically an ensemble show, so there can’t actually be a lead.

Anyway, the answer is Ed Marinaro, who played Joe Coffey on ‘Hill Street Blues’.

But even if I liked it, you still missed the point that Fred was the title actor, not your guy.

First of all, saying that Hill Street Blues 'sucked' tells me that your taste in television is as execrable as your taste in music.
