You answered my question correctly the first time. If there was another NFL player who was the lead role on a cop show in the 80s, I am not aware of that.

Fred is the only NFL player I know of who played a leading role in a cop drama in the 80s.

Fred Dyer was the lead in Hunter. I don't know of any other NFL player who went on to act in an 80s cop drama AS THE LEAD.

To be fair, you didn’t specify leads or title characters in your original question, so your criticism isn’t really fair.  And, as I said, this was basically an ensemble show, so there can’t actually be a lead.

Anyway, the answer is Ed Marinaro, who played Joe Coffey on ‘Hill Street Blues’.

Diff is, I am willing to admit it is a matter of taste. But it still does not change that your guy you are now promoting WAS NEVER a first tear star. Saying that he appeared in 100 episode of a show does not make him the lead. Garret Morris was "Sporty James" the entire series.
