The notion that atheism or jesusim is a choice is performative language. The people who say it know otherwise, but it buttresses arguments about the personal responsibility of faith and thus absolves their silly god of his culpability for torturing people who cannot help but be themselves.
This, like so much of contemporary jesusism, is refreshing. Even the jesusists seem to be aware that their god concept is full on soup sandwich. They would not accept a god that is and does what they claim their god to be, and be doing.
