A guy I dated my junior and senior year of high school had caught my eye during our freshman year but I didn't know it.

His high school started having a football team when we were freshmen. My high school had a team for years and was known for being really good. We were rivals already in all other sports.

First Junior Varsity game between my school and his and there was a big injury on the field. Really tall, thin guy from their team got creamed by much shorter, stocky guy from my school. Tall guy flew up in the air and did a back flip before landing really, really badly on one of his legs. There was a collective gasp from both stands. Ambulance drove onto the field to scoop him up and haul him away.

When we met he asked me if I knew Steve...yeah, I did. Boyfriend says, "Yeah, he broke my leg and screwed up my knee in a football game when we were freshman."

That was you??????

Not a pretty thing to watch, but then neither were either of the ACL tears my son suffered playing HS football.
