Much as peter Jackson’s or anyone else’s cinematic interpretation can’t possibly satisfy all who are of the various temperaments Needed to indulge in high fantasy, his First efforts were nonetheless as good as fantasy film out of Hollywood had ever gotten.
I admit to being a purist when it comes to LOTR. I agree with you that I wouldn't have been satisfied with the films regardless of who made them. That, however, doesn't justify Jackson's playing fast and loose with his source material.
To be fair, though, I couldn't have imagined the Bridge of Khazad Dum scene being any better.
