Looked up autorotation - that'd be a no for me, thanks.
And it gets even hairier on older style rotors.
With modern full articulated heads it is simply building up inertia in the main rotor by dropping with the blades in low positive pitch, increasing head speed - then increasing rotor pitch.and slowing descent as you approch ground - all which can be done with no lateral movement.
A fixed pitch - like a Hiller takes a whole lot more finness.....
