There is a bartender at my local sports bar who is not a "Coach" whom the patrons call "Coach".

The FBI agent calls her "Counselor" because she is a lawyer, so yes, while it is a title, it is also a nickname. 

If the show had chosen to script her as "Ambulance Chaser" they could have nicknamed her "AC".

But since she IS a lawyer, ‘counselor’ doesn’t work as a nickname. If you meet a cop and refer to him as ‘officer’ is that a nickname?
