Anyone who wants examples of how gun ads stoke fear, here’s a good place to start.

Admittedly, you may have to scroll down a bit to find them and I know from experience that scrolling down a bit may not be something some of us are inclined to do, but once we get to them, it’s hard to ignore.
And here’s a paper on how advertisements for guns shifted towards a more fear-based approach:

And for the record, I (and presumably most other people) count something like "the world is a scary place, one with a lot of people out to get you; good thing we have just the product for you!" as fear-based.
