A leader must make a judgment about inconveniencing 100-X% to save X%. There is a moral threshold, and in every country in the world, COVID19 met the threshold for imposing restrictions.
We know that Texas is now restriction-free. Perhaps some others are too. From a scientific viewpoint, this is too early. You are encouraging a new wave of virus variants that could haunt the population (and the world) for a longer time.
Texas needed a distraction for the disastrous power shortage, so they gave people bread and circuses.
