Are lockdowns justified?

In fact, when people act rationally and abide by the protocol, the protocols work.  So there we have our difference in point of view.  You blame irrational behavior on a rational measure.  I blame those who act irrationally.  

The failure of communism can conceiveably be blamed on people not acting rationally. But even if we had a proof communism would work if everybody was rational... that does not mean we should try to implement communism. And the same goes for lockdowns (and I believe for quite a few things, including eating meat: If human beings were not irrationally attracted to short-term profits above sustainability, antibiotic resistance would not be a problem with the meat industry.). Sure, it is not exactly the same thing. Whether lockdowns could work in a perfectly rational society is a matter of hard science, while whether communism would work in it is a matter of soft science. But the principle remains the same.
