Maybe our modern version of a promise or engagement ring? Gold looks so much more...yellow (?) than it does today. I have a few estate pieces that I bought at an auction that are more yellow, but many gold pieces of today, whether they're rings, pendants, chains...seem brassier.
Possibly copper was added. It has a strong reddish cast. I'd like to think that those pieces are adulterated, in some way. My wife's wedding ring is quite yellow. I don't recall what alloy it is. I can check. I only remember that my mom thought that I was nuts for selling my '40 Chevy club coupe dragster to pay for that ring.
It looked kind of like the orange one down page in the 5th row, but was baby blue and didn't have the giant tires in the back. Or the racing paint job.

Good points. Have you ever visited a museum and within the Egyptian exhibits (if you've been to these)...the gold jewelry being showcased always looks more yellow than what I've seen sold by retailers in the states. Like it's just striking!
