This "life doesn't matter, only heaven matters" idea is one I vehemently disagree with. I am actually angry about it. It can justify any and all evil, and robs life of its beauty.
Yeah, funny thing: I'm currently watching Leah Remini's docuseries on Scientology, and one of the big running themes throughout the series is how dangerous such an idea can be. The Co$' big goal is "Clearing the Planet." Literally every human rights abuse committed under their auspices can be (and frequently is) justifying it by saying that [Insert important things from getting a proper college education to taking care of your damn kids here] doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is saving the world. And if the COB decides locking up most of the executives in the Church in an ant-infested double wide and making them play musical chairs for the chance to not go to an even worse place will help Clear the Planet, you'd be an SP to not agree with him. And if Mike and Leah are talking to someone raised in Scientology, it's practically guaranteed that this point is going to come up.
