It’s also worth nothing that not only are violent break-ins less common than they used to be, they’re, surprisingly enough, linked with making shit worse, on the whole. Oddly enough, protecting yourself with a gun in cases of violent attacks actually makes you more likely to be injured (I’m putting this factoid in the category of “I Know, Right?”), and if you keep a gun in your home in self-defense, it’s more likely to kill a member of that household than a bad guy, whether it’s by (in increasing order of likelihood) homicide, suicide, or an accident.
