So, I forgot to take pictures when I went over to my dad's to paint on Friday, so, I didn't post much about it. Not much progress was made.
I went in with white highlights first, putting the base of the eyes down and the mouth. Then I came back in with the steady hand and making the black outlines. It definitely made her pop and I'm happy about that. But then looking at her face, I realized the eyes were too high and the lips were too low. It looked like a cheap, disturbing knock-off you'd see on the wall at a children's dentist office.
But as I stepped back and realized I'd need to redo the face by painting skin tones over it, I also realized that her skin was really pink. Like vibrantly so. It doesn't show in photos so much but there wasn't enough contrast between her skin and her hair with those red tones. So, as this dawned on me, I thought it was a good opportunity to remix the skin to be a lighter shade to pop and stand out from her hair.
While I waited for that to dry, I got the base stencil colors for Jane Porter done and then I was just sorta done for the night. I'm going back on Tuesday to finish the face and Porter on the other side. Then it'll be time to work on the planes. My dad stopped by today so I was able to run out and snap a quick picture of Jetson. I didn't take one of Jane Porter, simply because she doesn't look like much right now.
