The Richards et al paper references gender dysphoria by way of the APA's DSM-5, which is where the term was defined. The DSM-5 definition of gender dysphoria clearly indicates that gender is non-binary. From the APA's Fact Sheet on Gender Dysphoria:
- A strong desire to be of the other gender (or some alternative gender different from one’s assigned gender)
