By our knowledge of schizophrenia, can we say that Mohammad would not have been able to function the way he did, if he was seeing an imaginary Angel that recited Quran (so it would be his subconscious creating Quran)?

Or is it actually medically possible to function the way Mohammad did and be hallucinating at the same time?

Personally I am not sure if that the events in the life of Muhammad portrayed in the Quran, Hadiths and Siras is all that historical. Since I know little about Islam I cannot say if whether or not there was a historical Muhammad.
