Marxism is essentially Socialism that doesn’t work.

Marxism is just the improper term for Socialism, they are the same thing. And it does work, just in a dysfunctional way. It's an effective system. Dystopian, sure, but effective.

Socialism was around before Marx began writing about it. He spends time critiquing what he deems inferior forms of socialism in his works.
