It's quite possible that Christians by and large don't understand, and atheists by and large do. It's Christian hubris that assumes that they qualify as holy in the eyes of their god.
Just speaking for myself, I've known quite a few wicked Christians, and as far as atheists go... they've been less wicked on average compared to the Christians.
Actually, it is quite specific in so far as who will know the truth as contained in Holy Scripture, and who will not.
A true Christian is continuously taught many good things by GOD, including to be humble like the CHRIST, not arrogant! A true Christian knows that but for the grace of GOD he/she would still be under wrath, so where does arrogance come in?
I have stated before - per the Bible, which is truth - that not everyone who claims to be a Christian is in fact so. The Lord GOD knows those who are His - 2 Timothy 2:19
----
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." - Matthew 7:21
Could it be that (hypothetically) the vast majority of Christians are not true Christians? After all... according to what you just said, only God knows who is the true Scotsman (err- I mean, Christian.)
The reason I ask is, if it were the case (hypothetically) that your religion consisted mostly of untrue Christians, then maybe your entire religion isn't something a "true Christian" would want to be involved in.
