Yes, it is sad that so many people are so stupid or stubborn that they manage to kill themselves because they refuse to take a free vaccine that could save their lives.
It is sad that they are so stupid and stubborn that they would prefer to gargle iodine instead of getting a shot in the arm that could save them.
And if this was all that was going on, I could say it is sad that people are so stupid and stubborn.
But that is NOT all that is going on.
Those people who are refusing to get vaccinated are taking up hospital beds and making it so that others cannot get treatment. People having heart attacks cannot get treatment because these idiots are taking up the space. There is now an automatic DNR order in some places because resources cannot be spared because these idiots didn't get a simple shot in the arm.
At that point, they are killing others, not just themselves. That doesn't just make me sad, it makes me furious.
But there is more.
One reason variants are developing and spreading is because there is a pool of vulnerable people in which mutations can develop and spread. The larger this pool of people, the more likely it is that a variant will end up being immune to the vaccines, thereby putting everyone in danger again.
Also, because of their stupidity and arrogance, we have to go back to lockdowns, we cannot travel out of the country, we cannot eat out, we cannot do any number of things that all of want to be able to do. I have to wear a mask while teaching and so do my students because these people have not taken basic measures that are there to make them safer and allow everyone to get back to some semblance of normality.
So, yes, I am sad that these people are dying. But it infuriates me that their deaths aren't changing minds of those who survive to o the simple act of getting a shot in the arm that will allows us to get out of this f****** pandemic. It infuriates me that this is going to continue until all those idiots have had this virus and have either died or experienced long term recovery or managed to get over it.
At this point, I have no sympathy for someone who dies of COVID in the US who has not been vaccinated except those who have a legitimate medical excuse for not doing so. Their actions and inactions are affecting everyone else.
