I believe that Brian has a point, though it gets buried in his strange way of presentation. Yes, conservatives generally want lower taxes and some want zero tax though that makes absolutely no sense economically. But I think Brian is also getting to the point that conservatives/Republicans have totally missed the magicians hand reaching into their pockets this past half century, and that is corporate greed. Minorities, Democrats and immigrants are seen as the demons to them because that's what Republicans and Christians want them to believe. In fact, income tax rates have remained fairly steady. Increases have come more at the state and local level and in the form of sales taxes and most of those communities are run by Republicans. I live in a town where $50,000 pickup trucks outnumber people, yet every one of those truck owners would bitch and complain about how the government has robbed them of their wealth. Huh?
And I agree with OLB, gas taxes are actually a good thing as they help keep pressure on people to buy more efficient automobiles and they provide funds for roads. I don't mind tobacco taxes because I don't smoke but I sure would buy more whiskey if the price was a wee bit lower.

Why is it so?
