Vikings originated from several nations, which eventually became modern Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and (to a lesser extent) Germany. As has been explained, only those Scandinavian who went pillaging and raiding were Vikings. It was their impact that led to whole peoples being referred to by that term, which is why we read about ‘Viking traders’ and so on.
Like all cultures, the vast majority of Scandinavian people were tradespeople - farmers, smiths, weavers - and not warriors.

They were a nation. Their land became separated and recognised nowadays only:
Quote:The Vikings originated in what is now Denmark, Norway and Sweden (although centuries before they became unified countries). Their homeland was overwhelmingly rural, with almost no towns. The vast majority earned a meagre living through agriculture, or along the coast, by fishing.

You misunderstood me; I'm actually "embracing the faith of Islam & taking the Quran to be my constitution", and no need to take the high moral horse by you in this discussion: Western countries practice severe cruelties to people, you are lucky to be born in Canada, others like me who were born elsewhere see the "actual religion" of the west, we are the sitting ducks that you blow your ammunitions on.
The "age of the Vikings" is still going on; but the neo-vikings learned new tactics and learned how to hide their "cruel expansions" better.
You should learn to read your own links: 'It was the first recorded raid by the Vikings, seaborne pirates from Scandinavia who would prey on coastal communities in north-western Europe for more than two centuries and create for themselves a reputation as fierce and pitiless warriors.'
