Once was nearly sixty years ago now. The Goldwater campaign created the modern far right republican party.
I don't agree with that. Goldwater was not interested in mixing religion and politics; he made that clear. Its more complicated than that. There have been noticeable changes in most of the administrations in the last 50 years or so. Certainly this all started after the Eisenhower era. The incorporation of Christians into the party as a large voting block; the mishaps of the Carter era. Looking back, you can both see it coming and also envision a future where this didn't happen. With the exception of just a couple of administrations, all of them have lied to us on an epic scale.
