Evangelical christianity began it's current run as a fundamentally progressive movement as well.  To the point that kids who went on mission trips to central america back in the 60's and 70's are now senior citizens spouting off white replacement claptrap.  Jimmy Carter was a product of that, president when the worm turned, just as falwell and his ilk coopted the movement the charismatics had built.

Yes, I had forgotten that.  Read about it a lot in books about 18th and 19th century history.  I guess the religious movement always had it's tendencies but at one time it was actually a force for progress and not so much for fear.  Thanks for reminding me of that.
