I don't know how much being a boy has to do with having a present father or playing sports. There are alot of kids without dads playing video games in the us - doesn't seem to have the same effect on them. I think I've met one trans person that I know of in all of the different gaming communities I've been in over the last 20 year or so? I know the draw for me, beyond needing a team to win a game, was that I moved alot. Games were how I kept in touch with childhood friends. Ironically, people I -did- play sports with back in the day, who did have dads. Guess it depends on the group. There weren't going to be many dadless transgender people in our groups because people like that were thin on the ground in the demographics the group came out of. That and we'd have mercilessly teased anyone who came up with some sob story like that. "Boohoo, daddy never came to my ballgames, so now I'm a girl!". IDK Susan, you always seemed like a girl to us.
As far as gender not being genetic, or "in the water"....ofc not. However, what way does silicon valley lean, and what sort of disproportionate influence do you think transgender people have...in your opinion?
