I've read conflicting things about it. And of course no source, either way, should be trusted completely.
I guess I'm for masks just because of my experience here. In Japan social distancing is pretty much impossible, and lockdowns were never strict. We were slow to get vaccinated. But we're 100% masked. And of course Covid has been far less severe here than in other rich countries. So in my non-expert way, I see a correlation there.
But again, I see the problem with forcing people to do it.
