Just like centuries of extremely talented artists and craftsmen depicted the crucifixion in obscenely beautiful ways - the whole time, obsessing over how the better man was murdered so that they might gain undeserved reward from his torture and execution.
Did you ever hear Newsong’s early southern gospel material? They were pretty small back then and localized in Georgia. But I’m curious because they are one of my favorite bands, and one of the few groups that started off southern gospel that I listen to, the other being the Imperials.

That's Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Gospel/blues artist whose guitar style played a role in the formation of rock n' roll. (Elvis cites her as an influence.) She's awesome. A real innovator, pioneer, and lover of what she did. She has a pretty good version of "Up above my Head" as well as many other gospel classics.

Wow. That was dope. Thanks for introducing me to Jennifer Holiday. When the chorus came out and started clapping, that's when I couldn't help but jam along. It's odd to find Christians who aren't into gospel. (But I suppose you may find it odd that some atheists are.) I love gospel. I'm also into some heavily religious bluegrass.
Since you've become dissatisfied with contemporary Christian music, maybe you should do some more exploration of the gospel greats. Get into the roots. It's not just Christian music. A ton of contemporary music sucks.
I’ve been jamming to Jennifer Holiday since 2010. I don’t dislike gospel I just didn’t really grow up with it. I was more into the rock sounds of CCM in the 90s and first half of the 2000s, before everybody started to sound the same at the end of the decade. Maybe I should explore more gospel artists.
The reason I love Jennifer Holiday so much though is she just doesn’t hold back. She goes hard. She goes extra and it works and I love that. Haha.
